Scientists from Tomsk State University in Russia have developed a new technology of laser cutting glass and ceramics. This technology is mainly used for the production of smart phones and tablet PCs.

Information Service at the University said that the new laser cutting machine uses controlled thermal cutting method to cut brittle materials and ceramics. This technology greatly simplifies and speeds up parts manufacturing process while significantly reducing the production costs. The laser cutting machine can cut various types of glass and ceramic materials.

The technology greatly reduces scraps and defective products by achieving micron cutting precision. Furthermore, the laser cutting surface is very smooth, requiring no additional polishing work.
