Jungwoo M-Tech, a Korean electronic parts manufacturer announced recently that they have successfully developed cutting technology which can simultaneously perform cutting , etching (slimming), and edge processing (edge healing) without causing the ultra-thin glass to break or crack.
The advantage of this technology is obvious. Compared to a mechanical process, their technology uses a chemical processing method with fewer cases in which the glass is broken as a result of processing. By cutting and slimming the glass sheet simultaneously, it simplifies the UTG process and significantly increases the production yield. The UTG, which is used on foldable screen, produced through this process can reach a thickness of 100μm and a curvature radius of less than 1mm.
To meet the needs of foldable smartphone manufacturers, Jungwoo M-Tech recently established a production line in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do that can produce 150,000 UTG panels per month.
