Recently, the "Technical Specifications for the Application of Vacuum Insulated Glass for External Windows of Buildings" (T/XJJGZX 008-2024), led by LUOYANG LANDVAC Ti-VIG CO., LTD. (LUOYANG LANDVAC Ti-VIG CO., LTD is a wholly-owned subsidiary of LandGlass), in collaboration with Xinjiang Institute of Architectural Science and Urumqi Ganquanbao Construction Engineering Quality and Safety Supervision Station, was officially released. The standard will be implemented starting October 1, 2024. Its introduction not only fills the gap in mechanical calculations for VIG applications but also provides solid support for the development of the vacuum insulated glass industry.

Driven by the "dual-carbon" strategy and energy efficiency policies in the building sector, the demand for vacuum insulated glass in applications such as building facades, windows, and doors has surged. However, technical bottlenecks have constrained industry growth: the current standards lack key parameters, such as the strength design value and equivalent thickness for vacuum insulated glass, as well as critical indicators like the maximum allowable area. This has led to issues in engineering applications, such as lack of reliable strength checks and inaccurate rigidity calculations, directly affecting the scalability of the product.

Addressing these industry challenges, LandGlass, as a leading company in the vacuum insulated glass sector, joined forces with the China Academy of Building Research and Xinjiang Institute of Building Science to form a special task force. Through systematic research, the team developed a strength design theoretical model for vacuum insulated glass and established core parameters such as strength design values and equivalent thickness for products made with different manufacturing processes. Notably, vacuum insulated glass with metal edges showed a significant improvement in strength design value compared to traditional glass edge sealing techniques, providing essential guidance for product selection. The technical specifications developed based on these findings create a comprehensive technical system that covers design, material selection, and construction processes.

The specification consists of eight chapters, systematically regulating the technical requirements for vacuum insulated glass applications in building exterior windows. It covers definitions of terms, material properties, structural design, installation techniques, and acceptance standards. The appendix includes special content such as methods for calculating the wind pressure resistance of vacuum insulated glass and the thermal insulation performance of composite windows, forming a complete technical solution. The standard not only embodies theoretical innovation but also emphasizes practical engineering applications, offering clearer guidelines for the design and construction of vacuum insulated glass systems.
